What is Lyn?
Lyn is a lightweight media browser, viewer, and non-destructive editor for macOS. You point it at a folder and it displays your images immediately in one of four configurable browser views grid, filmstrip, list, or full canvas with fullscreen slideshow support built in. It opens virtually every format you will encounter: JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, HDR, JPEG XL, AVIF, SVG, OpenEXR, animated GIF, RAW files from all major cameras, QuickTime video, and basic PDF preview. It also integrates with Photos libraries, Lightroom catalogs, and older Aperture and iPhoto archives, so your existing collections are accessible without importing anything.
Browsing and Organization
Lyn keeps browsing fast even with large shoots. Smart folders, keywords, ratings, and color tags help you narrow down and organize images without moving them on disk. IPTC metadata can be inspected and edited directly in the app, and geotagging is built in drag a photo onto a map to set its location. Soft-proofing and color profile support make it useful for print-minded workflows where accurate color previews matter.
Non-Destructive Editing
The editing inspector covers the essentials for turning raw shots into finished photos. Exposure, color temperature, brightness, contrast, highlight and shadow recovery, individual curves and levels, selective color adjustments, black and white conversion, sepia tone, vignette, HDR adjustments, and film grain are all available. All adjustments are stored as attributes and applied only on export, so your original files are never touched.
What’s New in 2.4.9
Version 2.4.9 fixes a specific bug where opening an image using Open with Finder was not working correctly. It is a small but targeted fix that follows the active 2.4.x update series that brought macOS Tahoe compatibility in earlier builds.
Pricing
Lyn is priced at $29.99 as a one-time purchase and is available directly from lynapp.com. It is not on the Mac App Store licensing and updates go through the developer’s site. It requires macOS 10.13.4 or later and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
